Through Abilities Network’s Community and Employment Partners (CEP) program, our staff work with individuals and their families to develop a customized plan that guides them toward personal success. To better understand our CEP program, meet Beau.
Beau came into our services in March 2019 after transferring from another agency. Beau had recently lost his job and was looking for additional supports for employment. Abilities Network’s Community Support Professionals worked with Beau on job development and assisted him in updating his resume, practicing interview skills, learning how to communicate with employers and coworkers, and improving his customer service skills. After just 6 months, Beau was able to find integrated and competitive employment of his choice at Weis Markets.
Abilities Network’s Community Support Professionals provided on-site job coaching every week while Beau was working until he was confident enough to work independently. On-site job coaching for Beau consisted of assisting him with learning the tasks of his new job as well as becoming comfortable with the safety protocols of working outside in the parking lot. With help from staff, Beau also learned how to request for time off when needed, how to check his schedule and who to go to when he had questions about his work schedule.
Abilities Network continues to support Beau in his independence at Weis Markets and checks in regularly to ensure Beau’s success. Staff maintain contact with both Beau and his manager about regular work updates, and if any issues arise, Beau does not hesitate to reach out to staff for assistance.
Beau is a wonderful example of how Abilities Network prides itself in offering individualized services and support for each participant that can lead to independent and competitive employment in an integrated setting.
